THANK YOU FOR JOINING US FOR A SPECIAL EVENING
The Atlanta History Center was an appropriate venue for the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children’s 25th Anniversary gala on Sunday, March 30th, when it drew a glittering crowd of historic proportions (over 400 attendees). “Reflecting on our past . . . Planning for our future” was the theme of the evening, and the program included participation by two young survivors, 18-year-old Christopher Berger and 11-year-old musician Ben Yellin.
BTFC honored its eminent founder Rick Sauers, and esteemed neurosurgeon Dr. Roger Hudgins of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, both of whom addressed attendees. In addition, Dr. Daniel Barrow, Chief of Neurosurgery Services at Emory University School of Medicine, enlightened the audience with information about the need for continued and heightened research efforts. Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, served as a most charming Master of Ceremonies.
In addition to the inaugural BTFC Visionary Awards received by Rick Sauers and Dr. Roger Hudgins, Junior and Senior BTFC Research Scholar Awards, totaling $125,000, were presented to Kevin Schooler, MD, PhD of the University of Florida; Donald L. Durden, MD, PhD of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Aflac Cancer Center/Emory University; and Erwin G. Van Meir, PhD of the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University.
